SESR 2013 Recap

This year’s Southeast Regional Sisterhood Rally was hosted by the colony chapter of Virginia Tech at Roanoke, Virginia.

It was a weekend full of fun, laughter, and sisterhood.

Julie, Van, Dani, Roselle, Lauren, Gina, Fiona, Stephanie, Monisa, Klea, Jessica, Alice, and Tracy

It was great seeing sisters from all over the Southeast Region and being able to bond with them even if it was just  for a weekend.

“The eleven-hour car ride was surprisingly such a joy! I was able to get to know my sisters even more and had so much fun with them. I loved taking pictures in the gas station!” -Monisa

Monisa & Lauren

“This was my first SESR and I absolutely loved it! The car ride up to Virginia was so much fun; never a dull moment. It was nice meeting sister from our region especially reuniting with my psises from USF. This weekend was a great bonding opportunity for everyone.” -Julie

This year’s theme was “We Run the Word” and two forums were held, one discussing Risk Management regarding relationship violence and the other a personal health and fitness talk led by VTech charter and alum, Marylynn Morales. She also led a zumba and insanity workout.

We ended the day with a seven-course dinner at Pho Vietnam! We were able to share the meal with our chapter buddies, which happened to me our host chapter, VTech!

UF loves VTech

It was such a fun weekend. Props to VTech for doing a great job with SESR. We’re looking forward to SESC!

This summer we went to our aKDPhi National Convention in Santa Clara, California and we are proud to say that we are now the University of Florida’s ASSOCIATE Chapter of alpha Kappa Delta Phi!

There were sisters that were out of the country either for vacation or for internships.

Julie Somera went to Canada with her family for a small reunion and explored Niagara and Ontario.

Caitlyn Soriano was in China for a research grant.

Alice Zhang was also in China interning for Haier, and at the same time she was able to see her family there.

“This summer I had a blast interning in China! I was given an opportunity to intern at Haier Group, a Chinese multinational consumer electronics and home appliances company located in Qingdao, Shandong, China. I was the brand/product development intern, and got to work closely with the washer/dryer senior manager. My favorite part of the internship was getting to go on business trips throughout the providence and meeting all of Haier’s clients. The experience definitely helped me get a better understanding of the competitive market for white goods in China.” -Alice

Although not out of the country, Stephanie Wong was in our nation’s capital interning for the DC Superior Court. She interned under a judge in the domestic violence sector of the courthouse. She was also able to observe many other trials ranging from murder to juvenile cases. Stephanie also Conference for Asian Pacific American Leaders (CAPAL) and attended many social forums where they discussed many issues that affect our APIA community.

“My favorite part about this summer was the experience I gained and all the amazing people I’ve met who have left an impression on me and have inspired me to go after my dreams.” -Stephanie

Irene Ng was in Pennsylvania interning at General Electric.

Oanh Nguyen was in California interning for MNET America, the leading network for Asian Pop entertainment.

Those who were in Gainesville organized a Bone Marrow Drive for one of our sister, Nina; performed in Gatormania, and hosted a Summer Extravaganza.
